International students in Germany: A win/win situation

International students coming to Germany for an exchange programme create substantial financial benefits for the national economy. This is the major finding of a study from the DAAD, financially supported by the German ministry for education and the European Commission.

Germany invests around EUR 27 million annually for short-term study visits. However, in the short run these stays then generate an increase of the national gross value of EUR 292 million while creating more than 3 100 new jobs. If just two percent of these students and interns return to take up an employment in Germany after graduation, the public investment in education would be fully covered.
