EduFrance becomes CampusFrance

On 7 March, at a joint press conference held at Sorbonne university, the French Ministers of Foreign Affairs, of Education and of Higher Education and Research announced the creation of CampusFrance. Merging Egide and CNOUS with EduFrance, CampusFrance is a product of the government’s project to reinforce the attractiveness of France in the field of higher education. The new agency, a non-profit making organisation under the supervision of three Ministries, is responsible for the promotion of French higher education abroad and for providing support services to international students and other visitors. It utilises the experience of EduFrance in promoting French higher education and counselling potential students as well as the experience of Egide and CNOUS in managing international scholarship and cooperation programmes. Proffesor André Siganos, who was appointed as Director of EduFrance in November 2006, is now the Director of CampusFrance.

The long-term aim is for CampusFrance to become a national agency in charge of all issues linked to international mobility in higher education. The organisation has over 80 CampusFrance offices (ex EduFrance) abroad that counsel students on study possibilities in France and assist them with visa applications. These offices are based in French Embassies. CampusFrance is also responsible for implementing a new charter to ensure that students coming to France receive top-quality service from start to finish.
